PRECINCT BUILDING JCU

SPECIALIST TEACHING & STUDENT SERVICES
PRECINCT BUILDING, JAMES COOK UNIVERSITY

This project involved the construction of a
150 seat lecture theatre, specialist teaching
facilities, academic offices and student centred
learning spaces, in a new centre for the School of
Education at JCU.
The building had many technical challenges
with precast, prestressed, insitu, condek and
composite steel concrete construction used within
the single building. Significant load transfer and
challenging floor spans were required to achieve
the architectural form. Concrete wall beams and
prestressed bridge girders were used to provide
economical solutions to the limited load bearing
elements available.
